Abstract : Nicknamed "Lightning II," the F-35 is a family of conventional take-off and landing, aircraft carrier-capable, and short take-off/vertical landing (STOVL) aircraft. Arguably the most controversial of this family is the F-35B STOVL variant, which is destined to replace the USMC's aging F/A-18 and AV-8B fleets.
