We investigate Gaussian quantum states in view of their exceptional role within the space of all continuous variables states. A general method for deriving extremality results is provided and applied to entanglement measures, secret key distillation and the classical capacity of bosonic quantum channels. We prove that for every given covariance matrix the distillable secret key rate and the entanglement, if measured appropriately, are minimized by Gaussian states. This result leads to a clearer… Expand

Measuring Gaussian quantum information and correlations using the Rényi entropy of order 2.
We demonstrate that the Rényi-2 entropy provides a natural measure of information for any multimode Gaussian state of quantum harmonic systems, operationally linked to the phase-space ShannonExpand
Quantum Information with Fermionic Gaussian States
The subject of this Thesis is quantum information with fermions in the Gaussian setting. We study finite-dimensional fermionic Gaussian quantum states and channels. We show that Gaussian states areExpand
Gaussification and entanglement distillation of continuous-variable systems: a unifying picture.
TLDR
This work introduces a picture general enough to encompass the known protocols leading to Gaussian states, and new classes of protocols including multipartite distillation, which gives the experimental option of balancing the merits of success probability against entanglement produced. Expand
Unconditional optimality of Gaussian attacks against continuous-variable quantum key distribution.
TLDR
A fully general approach to the security analysis of continuous-variable quantum key distribution (CV-QKD) is presented, and Gaussian attacks are shown to be optimal against all collective eavesdropping strategies. Expand
Quantifying entanglement in two-mode Gaussian states
Entangled two-mode Gaussian states are a key resource for quantum information technologies such as teleportation, quantum cryptography, and quantum computation, so quantification of GaussianExpand
Quantifying the non-Gaussian character of a quantum state by quantum relative entropy
We introduce a measure to quantify the non-Gaussian character of a quantum state: the quantum relative entropy between the state under examination and a reference Gaussian state. We analyze in detailExpand

Quantum steering for continuous-variable states
Quantum steering is a stronger form of quantum entanglement and is considered to rigorously address the nonlocal correlation in the original Einstein–Podolsky–Rosen paradox. We study the quantumExpand
Continuous Variable Quantum Information: Gaussian States and Beyond
TLDR
The basic notions needed to understand Gaussian states and Gaussian operations are defined, and emphasis is placed on the mathematical structure combining notions of algebra and symplectic geometry fundamental to a complete understanding of Gaussian informatics. Expand
Gaussian optimizers and other topics in quantum information

Bound entangled Gaussian states.
TLDR
It is shown that, for systems composed of a single oscillator for Alice and an arbitrary number for Bob, positivity of the partial transpose implies separability, but this implication fails with two oscillators on each side, as it is shown by constructing a five parameter family of bound entangled Gaussian states. Evaluating capacities of bosonic Gaussian channels
We show how to compute or at least to estimate various capacity-related quantities for bosonic Gaussian channels. Among these are the coherent information, the entanglement-assisted classicalExpand
Gaussian entanglement of formation
We introduce a Gaussian version of the entanglement of formation adapted to bipartite Gaussian states by considering decompositions into pure Gaussian states only. We show that this quantity is anExpand
Classical information capacity of a class of quantum channels

“Squashed entanglement”: An additive entanglement measure

Quantum benchmark for storage and transmission of coherent states.
TLDR
A limit on the average fidelity achievable when the states are transmitted or stored by a classical channel, i.e., a measure and repreparation scheme which sends or stores classical information only is proved. Expand
Entanglement of formation for symmetric Gaussian states.
TLDR
It is shown that for a fixed amount of entanglement, two-mode squeezed states are those that maximize Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen-like correlations and this is the first instance in which this measure has been determined for genuine continuous variable systems. Expand

It is shown that the single-clone fidelity of the optimal 1-to-infinity cloner is 1/2 and it is achieved by a Gaussian scheme and cannot be surpassed even with supplemental bound entangled states. Expand
