The low density lipoprotein receptor-related protein (LRP) has been reported to regulate cellular migration. In this study, an antisense RNA expression strategy was used to reduce LRP to undetectable levels in HT 1080 fibrosarcoma cells. The LRP-deficient cells demonstrated increased levels of cell-surface uPAR, higher levels of uPA in conditioned medium, increased migration on vitronectin-coated surfaces, and increased invasion of Matrigel.
