Production of extracellular matrix (ECM) by mesangial cells (MCs) contributes to progressive glomerulosclerosis. Our previous immunocytochemical studies on ECM production by MCs [1] were extended by examining the gene expression and protein synthesis using Northern blotting and ELISA.
