We have constructed the most general chirally invariant Lagrangian {ital scrL}{sub 6} for the meson sector at order {ital p}{sup 6}. The result provides an extension of the standard Gasser-Leutwyler Lagrangian {ital scrL}{sub 4} to one higher order, including as well all the odd intrinsic parity terms in the Lagrangian. The most difficult part of the construction was developing a systematic strategy so as to get all of the independent terms and eliminate the redundant ones in an efficient way…

Chiral perturbation theory with tensor sources

We construct the most general chirally-invariant Lagrangian for mesons in the presence of external sources coupled to the tensor current \bar psi sigma_mu nu psi. In order to have only even terms in

On the three-point order parameters of chiral symmetry breaking

The nonlocal order parameters of the QCD chiral symmetry breaking, namely the nonanomalous three-point Green functions of the quark bilinears belonging to the odd intrinsic parity sector, are studied

Topics in chiral perturbation theory for charmed mesons

This thesis is concerned with topics in chiral perturbation theory for pseudoscalar charmed mesons in a manifestly Lorentz-invariant way. After constructing the chiral effective Lagrangian describing

Low-energy limit of the extended Linear Sigma Model

Abstract. The extended Linear Sigma Model is an effective hadronic model based on the linear realization of chiral symmetry $ SU(N_{f})_{L} \times SU(N_{f})_{R}$SU(Nf)L×SU(Nf)R , with (pseudo)scalar

Operator counting and soft blocks in chiral perturbation theory

Chiral perturbation theory (ChPT) is a low-energy effective field theory of QCD and also a nonlinear sigma model based on the symmetry breaking pattern ${\rm SU}(N_f)\times {\rm SU}(N_f)\to {\rm

Chiral Perturbation Theory for Mesons

Chiral perturbation theory provides a systematic method for discussing the consequences of the global flavor symmetries of QCD at low energies by means of an effective field theory. The effective

2, 12, 117, 1959, 45171, 1170086, …: a Hilbert series for the QCD chiral Lagrangian

We apply Hilbert series techniques to the enumeration of operators in the mesonic QCD chiral Lagrangian. Existing Hilbert series technologies for non-linear realizations are extended to incorporate

Effective Lagrangians for quantum many-body systems

A bstractThe low-energy and low-momentum dynamics of systems with a spontaneously broken continuous symmetry is dominated by the ensuing Nambu-Goldstone bosons. It can be conveniently encoded in a

The anomalous chiral Lagrangian of order $p^6$

Abstract. We construct the effective chiral Lagrangian for chiral perturbation theory in the mesonic odd-intrinsic-parity sector at order $p^6$. The Lagrangian contains 24 in principle measurable
