We show that the flowering sectors on plants mutant for floricaula (flo), a meristem identity gene in Antirrhinum majus, are periclinal chimeras expressing flo in either the L1, L2 or L3 cell layer. Flower morphology is almost normal in L1 chimeras, but altered in L2 and L3 chimeras.
