The cellular ets genes (ets-1, ets-2, and erg) have been identified by their sequence similarity with the v-ets oncogene of the avian erythroblastosis virus, E26. Products of the ets-2 gene have been detected in a wide range of normal mouse tissues and their expression appears to be associated with cell proliferation in regenerating liver.
