BACKGROUND Nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drugs inhibiting cyclooxygenase (COX) enzyme activity in both its constitutive (COX-1) and inducible (COX-2) isoforms were shown also to inhibit the development of colon carcinoma in animal models.
