Endometriotic implants, like other estrogen-dependent tumors, contain both estrogen receptors and aromatase cytochrome P450 (P450arom), suggesting that at a local level, endometriotic implants produce estrogens, which may be involved in tissue growth through interaction with the estrogen receptors.
