Previously, we have reported the regulation of monocarboxylate transporters (MCT)1 and MCT4 by physiological stimuli such as hypoxia and exercise. In the present study, we have evaluated the effect of hypoxic preconditioning and training on expression of different MCT isoforms in muscles. We found the increased mRNA expression of MCT1, MCT11, and MCT12 after hypoxic preconditioning with cobalt chloride and training. However, the expression of other MCT isoforms increased marginally or even…

Nrf2 Activation Enhances Muscular MCT1 Expression and Hypoxic Exercise Capacity
TLDR
For the first time, results show that SFN increases MCT1 expression in the skeletal muscle under acute hypoxic exercise and suggest that Nrf2 activation is a promising strategy to enhance exercise performance under hypoxia.
Role of MCT1 and CAII in skeletal muscle pH homeostasis, energetics, and function: in vivo insights from MCT1 haploinsufficient mice
TLDR
It is concluded that both MCT1 and CAII are involved in the homeostatic control of pH in skeletal muscle, both at rest and at the onset of exercise.
Ischemic Preconditioning Improves Strength Endurance Performance.
TLDR
The results demonstrate the effect of IPC just on the number of repetitions performed in high-load resistance exercise compared with the Placebo condition.
BIOREACTOR STRATEGIES TO INCREASE THE ENGINEERED PROTEIN PRODUCTION IN LACTOCOCCUS LACTIS
TLDR
The correlation between ATR suppression and increase in recombinant protein activity was used to develop bioreactor strategies for enhancement of volumetric activity of recombinant streptokinase.
ENHANCED ANTIOXIDANT AND PHYTOCHEMICAL PROPERTIES OF IN VITRO GROWN ASPARAGUS RACEMOSUS
Asparagus racemosus is a valuable medicinal plant having antioxidant property and various phytochemical constituents. The aim of the study was to compare the difference in antioxidant property and
ABIOTIC ELICITATION: A TOOL FOR PRODUCING BIOACTIVE COMPOUNDS
TLDR
Elicitors are termed as the chemicals (biotic or abiotic) that gets triggered by a stress induced response or stimulate the defense mechanism in plants which therefore accumulates secondary metabolites, hence it can be a one of the best approaches for enhancement of production of secondary metabolites.
Characterization of Centrally Expressed Solute Carriers : Histological and Functional Studies with Transgenic Mice
The Solute Carrier (SLC) superfamily is the largest group of membrane-bound transporters, currently with 456 transporters in 52 families. Much remains unknown about the tissue distribution and func
RADICAL SCAVENGING ABILITY OF BLACK TEA INFUSIONS WITH OR WITHOUT MILK IN COMBINATION WITH OCIMUM GRATISSIMUM
Tea is consumed in most parts of world for its aroma, flavour, taste and health promoting potential. Black tea can be consumed with/without the addition of milk, that can alter its antioxidant
Radiosynthesis and validation of (±)-[18F]-3-fluoro-2-hydroxypropionate ([18F]-FLac) as a PET tracer of lactate to monitor MCT1-dependent lactate uptake in tumors
TLDR
The synthesis, evaluation and in vivo validation of (±)-[ 18F]-3-fluoro-2-hydroxypropionate ([18F]-FLac as a tracer of lactate for positron emission tomography offers the possibility to monitor MCT1-dependent lactate uptake and inhibition in tumors in vivo.

Endurance training, expression, and physiology of LDH, MCT1, and MCT4 in human skeletal muscle.
TLDR
Results support the conclusions that 1) endurance training increases expression of MCT1 in muscle because of insertion of M CT1 into both sarcolemmal and mitochondrial membranes, 2) training has variable effects on sarcolemma-enriched MCT4, and 3) both MCTs participate in the cell-cell lactate shuttle, whereas MCT2 facilitates operation of the intracellular lactate Shuttle.
Changes in MCT 1, MCT 4, and LDH expression are tissue specific in rats after long-term hypobaric hypoxia.
TLDR
It is concluded that chronic hypoxia had a tissue-specific effect on MCTs and LDH (that form the lactate shuttle) but did not produce a consistent increase in these components in all tissues.
Isoform-specific regulation of the lactate transporters MCT1 and MCT4 by contractile activity.
TLDR
Chronic contractile activity induces the expression of MCT1 but not MCT4, and an increase in MCT 1 alone was sufficient to increase lactate uptake from the circulation.
Testosterone increases lactate transport, monocarboxylate transporter (MCT) 1 and MCT4 in rat skeletal muscle
TLDR
It is shown that testosterone induces an increase in both MCT1 and MCT4 proteins and their plasmalemmal content in skeletal muscle and in the heart, and there was a strong positive relationship between the testosterone‐induced increments in MCT 4 protein and the fast‐twitch fibre composition of rat muscles.
Augmentation of aerobic respiration and mitochondrial biogenesis in skeletal muscle by hypoxia preconditioning with cobalt chloride.
Hypoxia stimulates lactate release and modulates monocarboxylate transporter (MCT1, MCT2, and MCT4) expression in human adipocytes
TLDR
It is concluded that Hypoxia increases lactate release from adipocytes and modulates MCT expression in a type-specific manner, with MCT1 and MCT4 expression being hypoxia-inducible transcription factor-1 (HIF-1) dependent.
Effects of acute and chronic exercise on sarcolemmal MCT1 and MCT4 contents in human skeletal muscles: current status.
TLDR
On the basis of cross-sectional studies, intensity would appear to be the most important factor regulating exercise-induced changes in MCT content, as well as a variety of stimuli inducing an elevation of lactate level.
Acute exercise increases brain region-specific expression of MCT1, MCT2, MCT4, GLUT1, and COX IV proteins.
TLDR
It is suggested that acute prolonged exercise induces the brain region-specific upregulation of MCT1, M CT2, MCT4, GLUT1, and COX IV proteins.
The Plasma Membrane Lactate Transporter MCT4, but Not MCT1, Is Up-regulated by Hypoxia through a HIF-1α-dependent Mechanism*
TLDR
It is concluded that MCT4, like other glycolytic enzymes, is up-regulated by hypoxia through a HIF-1α-mediated mechanism, which allows the increased lactic acid produced during Hypoxia to be rapidly lost from the cell.
Lactate transport in skeletal muscle — role and regulation of the monocarboxylate transporter
TLDR
The stereoselective transport of L‐lactic acid across the plasma membrane of muscle fibres has been shown to involve a proton‐linked monocarboxylate transporter (MCT) similar to that described in erythrocytes and other cells, which plays an important role in the pH regulation of skeletal muscle.
