Objective:Selected mechanisms of the immune system participate in the development of inflammatory bowel disease. Recently, overexpression of the ligand for CD40 (CD40L), a lymphocyte costimulatory molecule, was shown to induce severe inflammatory bowel disease in transgenic mice.
