The adenovirus VA1 RNA (VA1), a 160-nucleotide (nt)-long RNA transcribed by RNA polymerase III, is efficiently exported from the nucleus to the cytoplasm of infected cells, where it antagonizes the interferon-induced antiviral defense system.
