The appreciation that the inflammatory reaction does not 'spontaneously' finish, but rather that inflammatory resolution is an active phenomenon brought about by endogenous anti-inflammatory agonists opens multiple opportunities for a reassessment of the complexity of inflammation and its main mediators.
