We have recently demonstrated that neuritic outgrowth from explants of Xenopus retina is greatly facilitated if the optic nerve is cut in situ some time before explantation of the retina i. We now report that this effect can be demonstrated in the adult goldfish. Unilateral retro-orbital crush is performed on goldfish (6-7 cm body length, Ozark Fisheries) anesthetized with Finquel (Ayerst).
