As part of a study of pathogenesis of experimental hematogenous Candida albicans endophthalmitis in New Zealand White female rabbits, lesions of the disease were examined electron microscopically 4 to 16 days after intravenous inoculation with a patient's strain of C. albicans. Each lesion consisted of an inflammatory retinovitreal nodule and a surrounding zone of infiltrated chorioretina. The largely intercellular fungus was seen only in the inflammatory nodules.
