With the increasing greenhouse effect there is a requirement for developing renewable energy and fuels. The petroleum industry is therefore striving to find new ways of creating biomass based fuels to reduce the carbon footprints of their products. One way this is done is to mix in forestry based hydrocarbons into the fossil fuels. A source of these hydrocarbons is tall oil which contains fatty acids.
