Experimental Design for the Measurement of the Thrust Force Produced by an Asymmetrical Capacitor

Abstract

This paper focuses on measuring the force produced by an asymmetrical capacitor known as the Biefeld Brown Effect. This phenomenon is an observation made which tries to explain how such devices produce thrust. An asymmetrical capacitor thruster was built by taking simple lifters and attaching then to a central rotating rod, this rod rotates when the lifters are powered by a high voltage of around 35kV. Measurements were made in both vertical and horizontal configurations where two lifters were attached to a central rotating rod. A microcontroller application was implemented along with peripherals to allow precise measurements of the central rod’s angular velocity. In conclusion, precise data was obtained by means of an iR encoder setup which was graphed in a GUI environment in real-time.
