Dynamical phase transition in quantum many body systems is usually studied by taking it in the ground state and then quenching a parameter to a new value. We investigate here the dynamics when one performs the time evolution of a generic state and observe that the rate function related to the Loschmidt echo shows non-analytic behavior of two types, one related, and the other unrelated, to the appearance of a quantum phase transition. Specifically, we consider a quantum Ising chain in an initial…

Exceptional dynamical quantum phase transitions in periodically driven systems
The existence of distinct phases and unconventional singularity of dynamical free energy, whose signature can be accessed through quasilocal operators are demonstrated using a stroboscopic Ising model.
Floquet dynamical phase transition and entanglement spectrum
We explore both pure and mixed states Floquet dynamical quantum phase transitions (FDQFTs) in the one-dimensional p-wave superconductor with a time-driven pairing phase. In the Fourier space, the
Floquet dynamical quantum phase transition in the extended XY model: Nonadiabatic to adiabatic topological transition
We investigate both pure and mixed states Floquet dynamical quantum phase transition (DQPT) in the periodically time-dependent extended XY model. We exactly show that the proposed Floquet Hamiltonian

Dynamical Quantum Phase Transitions in Random Spin Chains
Quantum systems can exhibit a great deal of universality at low temperature due to the structure of ground states and the critical points separating distinct states. On the other hand, quantum time

Nonequilibrium states of closed quantum many-body systems defy a thermodynamic description. As a consequence, constraints such as the principle of equal a priori probabilities in the microcanonical
Dynamical topological quantum phase transitions for mixed states
We introduce and study dynamical probes of band structure topology in the post-quench time-evolution from mixed initial states of quantum many-body systems. Our construction generalizes the notion of

It is shown analytically that the connection between the DPTs and the EPTs does not hold generally, and also no DPT by crossing the equilibrium critical point.
Quenches and dynamical phase transitions in a non-integrable quantum Ising model
We study quenching dynamics of a one-dimensional transverse Ising chain with nearest neighbor antiferromagentic interactions in the presence of a longitudinal field which renders the model
Dynamical quantum phase transitions in the transverse-field Ising model.
It is shown that the equilibrium quantum phase transition and the dynamical phase transition in the transverse-field Ising model are intimately related.
Concurrence of dynamical phase transitions at finite temperature in the fully connected transverse-field Ising model
We construct the finite-temperature dynamical phase diagram of the fully connected transverse-field Ising model from the vantage point of two disparate concepts of dynamical criticality. An
Disentangling dynamical phase transitions from equilibrium phase transitions
Dynamical phase transitions (DPT) occur after quenching some global parameters in quantum systems and are signalled by the non-analytical time evolution of the dynamical free energy, which is

This review provides a pedagogical introduction to the theory of dynamical quantum phase transitions as phase transitions in time with physical quantities becoming nonanalytic at critical times.
Signature of a continuous quantum phase transition in non-equilibrium energy absorption: Footprints of criticality on higher excited states
Signature of a quantum critical point manifested in strongly out-of-equilibrium states with finite energy density with respect to the ground state and extensive (subsystem) entanglement entropy, generated by an external pulse is reported.
