In addition to spintronics another motivation for exploring ferromagnetic two-dimensional materials is for biomedical applications such as magnetic labeling and hyperthermia treatment of tumors. Unfortunately, the widely studied Mn-containing monolayer is not biocompatible, although it is ferromagnetic.
