It is the coexistence of physical and cognitive impairments, together with emotional and social issues in a disease with an uncertain course, that makes MS rehabilitation unique and challenging. Inpatient rehabilitation improves functional independence but has only limited success improving the level of neurologic impairment. Benefits are usually not long lasting.
