Excitation of ruthenium(II) tris(phenanthroline) in the visible region results in the tranfer of an electron from the central atom toward one of the ligands. To probe this excited state, we have performed pump-induced absorption and circular dichroism in the ultraviolet wavelengths, in the intraligand pi-pi* transition region. On top of the bleaching of the ground state transitions, new structures appear in the absorption and CD spectra. Thanks to a classical calculation based on the…

Unveiling Excited-State Chirality of Binaphthols by Femtosecond Circular Dichroism and Quantum-Chemical Calculations.
TLDR
This work presents here the first comprehensive study of this type in the middle UV, combining femtosecond TR-CD and quantum mechanical calculations (TD-DFT) and shows that excitation of the three compounds induces large variations of their transient CD signals, in sharp contrast to those of their achiral transient absorption.
Ultrafast broadband circular dichroism in the deep ultraviolet
The measurement of chirality and its temporal evolution are crucial for the understanding of a large range of biological functions and chemical reactions. Steady-state circular dichroism (CD) is a

Study of the Effect of the Pulse Width of the Excitation Source on the Two-Photon Absorption and Two-Photon Circular Dichroism Spectra of Biaryl Derivatives.
TLDR
The comparative analysis of the experimental TPCD spectra obtained with the tunable amplified femtosecond system with those previously measured in the group on the same series of compounds in the picosecond regime reveals a decrease in the amplitude of the signal and an improvement in matching with the theory in the former.

Circular Dichroism and Linear Dichroism

CD can be used to analyze chiral structures such as protein secondary structure in molecules and to probe interactions between chiral molecules and other molecule and to provide orientation information about subunits of a molecular system such as small molecules absorbed onto stretched films, flow-oriented DNAs and fibrous proteins, and lipid bilayer systems.
