Objective: This article reports a case of bilateral cleft lip and alveolus (BCLA) for which excessive rapid palatal expansion with a Latham appliance was performed for preoperative alignment of the protruded premaxilla. Postoperative changes of maxillary width were investigated with serial plaster casts. Patient and Results: A 3-month-old girl presented with complete BCLA in which the premaxilla was markedly protruded. Preoperative alignment of the protruded premaxilla with a Latham appliance…

Figures from this paper

Modified presurgical nasoalveolar molding for patients with neonatal complete bilateral cleft lip and palate having a severely malpositioned premaxilla.

TLDR
The authors' MPNAM device was able to rapidly centralize the malpositioned premaxilla and reduce the alveolar cleft defect, and can be applied in presurgical orthodontic treatments for patients with complete BCLP having a severely protruded and deviated premaxillas.

Maxillary Growth After the Use of Protraction Head Gear in Conjunction With Presurgical Orthopedics and Gingivoperiosteoplasty for Complete Bilateral Cleft Lip and Alveolus Patients

TLDR
The combination of PSO and GPP can potentially eliminate the need for ABG and does not significantly retard maxillary development, and PSO with GPP and protraction head gear may be an option, but long-term growth is not known.

TLDR
In patient with bilateral cleft lip and palate, the premaxilla was protracted by nasoalveolar molding before lip surgery, and postoperative use of a guidance plate prevented relapse of thePremaxillary segment, the nasal conformers maintained the nostril form.

TLDR
Initial lateral deviation of the nasal septum is a predictive factor for the proximity between alveolar segments in infants with UCLP at the PIO.

TLDR
A specific relation between the Cleft Palate and cervical anomalies and the vertebral anomalies following a specific pattern in different types of cleft was found to be PAD which occurred more frequently in UCLP and CP only and fusion occurring significantly more often in BCLP.

Cleft lip and palate treated by presurgical orthopedics, gingivoperiosteoplasty, and lip adhesion (POPLA) compared with previous lip adhesion method: a preliminary study of serial dental casts.

TLDR
The POPLA approach achieves the main goal of moving the palate into a normal position and stabilizing the arch with a bony bridge that attracts teeth and avoids the difficult anterior fistulae and presents a more symmetrical platform upon which the lip can be united and the nose can be corrected early.

Reduced need for alveolar bone grafting by presurgical orthopedics and primary gingivoperiosteoplasty.

TLDR
If narrowing and approximation of the alveolar cleft through presurgical alveolars molding followed by gingivoperiosteoplasty at the time of lip repair reduces the need for a bone-grafting procedure is evaluated.

TLDR
The primary use of periosteum had been abandoned in this unit already in 1974, because it did not fulfill the expectations of prevention of maxillary collapse, lesser need for secondary bone grafting, and better midfacial growth.
