The five facet mindfulness questionnaire (FFMQ; Baer, Smith, Hopkins, Krietemeyer, & Toney, 2006) and the self-compassion scale (SCS; Neff, 2003) are widely used measures of mindfulness and self-compassion in mindfulness-based intervention research. The psychometric properties of the FFMQ and the SCS need to be independently replicated in community samples and relevant clinical samples to support their use. Our primary aim was to establish the factor structures of the FFMQ and SCS in…

Psychometric Properties of the Five Facets Mindfulness Questionnaire in Moderate-to-Severe, Persistent Depression

Mindfulness has been increasingly incorporated into modern psychotherapies and healthcare services. The importance of psychometrically quantifying the construct of mindfulness has become paramount.

Mindfulness and Self-compassion as Unique and Common Predictors of Affect in the General Population

It is suggested that a harsh attitude towards oneself and a lack of attention when acting have the greatest value in predicting the presence of psychological symptoms, and mindfulness is a more important predictor of positive affect than self-compassion, as measured by the FFMQ and SCS.

Revisiting the five-facet structure of mindfulness

The current study aimed to replicate the development of the Five-Facet Mindfulness Questionnaire (FFMQ) in a sample of 399 undergraduate students. We factor analyzed the Mindful Attention and

Investigating the Psychometric Properties of the Self-Compassion Scale: Using Confirmatory and Exploratory Factor Models

Self-compassion has quickly gained recognition for its many cognitive, emotional, and psychological benefits (Neff, 2003b). The Self-Compassion Scale (SCS; Neff, 2003a) is currently the only

A Reconsideration of the Self-Compassion Scale’s Total Score: Self-Compassion versus Self-Criticism

Results from this study do not justify the common use of the SCS total score as an overall indicator of self-compassion, and provide support for the idea, as also assumed by others, that it is important to make a distinction between self-Compassion and self-criticism.

Revisiting the Self-compassion Scale-Short Form: Stronger Associations with Self-inadequacy and Resilience

The Self-compassion Scale-Short Form (SCS-SF) was developed as an economical alternative for the Self-compassion Scale (SCS), one of the few scales to assess self-compassion. Despite the active use

An Examination of Concurrent and Incremental Validity of Four Mindfulness Scales

General consensus among psychologists supports the beneficial effects of mindfulness in the treatment of a wide range of clinical conditions such as personality, mood, and anxiety disorders. Several

Using Self-Report Assessment Methods to Explore Facets of Mindfulness

Mindfulness facets were shown to be differentially correlated in expected ways with several other constructs and to have incremental validity in the prediction of psychological symptoms.

The association between dispositional mindfulness, psychological well-being, and perceived health in a Swedish population-based sample.

Results suggest that dispositional mindfulness might buffer against the negative influence of perceived stress on psychological well-being, and give additional support for the use of mindfulness training as a way of improving psychological functioning among people experiencing stress.
