We construct an exactly soluble Hamiltonian on the D=3 cubic lattice, whose ground state is a topological phase of bosons protected by time reversal symmetry, i.e a symmetry protected topological (SPT) phase. In this model anyonic excitations are shown to exist at the surface but not in the bulk. The statistics of these surface anyons is explicitly computed and shown to be identical to the 3-fermion Z2 model, a variant of Z2 topological order which cannot be realized in a purely D=2 system with…

Symmetry-protected topological phases from decorated domain walls

It is shown that symmetry-protected topological phases are realized when these domain walls are decorated, that is, are themselves symmetries in one lower dimension, both for unitary Z2 and anti-unitary time reversal symmetry.

Exactly solvable model for a 4+1D beyond-cohomology symmetry-protected topological phase

We construct an exactly solvable commuting projector model for a ($4+1$)-dimensional ${\mathbb{Z}}_{2}$-symmetry-protected topological phase (SPT) which is outside the cohomology classification of

Gapped symmetry preserving surface state for the electron topological insulator

It is well known that the 3D electronic topological insulator (TI) with charge-conservation and time-reversal symmetry cannot have a trivial insulating surface that preserves symmetry. It is often

Anomaly constraint on chiral central charge of (2+1)d topological order

In this short paper, we argue that the chiral central charge c − of a (2 + 1) d topological ordered state is sometimes strongly constrained by ’t Hooft anomaly of anti-unitary global symmetry. For

Time-Reversal Symmetric $U(1)$ Quantum Spin Liquids

We study possible quantum $U(1)$ spin liquids in three dimensions with time-reversal symmetry. We find a total of 7 families of such $U(1)$ spin liquids, distinguished by the properties of their

Towards topological fixed-point models beyond gappable boundaries

We consider fixed-point models for topological phases of matter formulated as discrete path integrals in the language of tensor networks. Such zero-correlation length models with an exact notion of

Gravitational anomaly of 3+1 dimensional Z_2 toric code with fermionic charges and fermionic loop self-statistics

Quasiparticle excitations in 3 + 1 dimensions can be either bosons or fermions. In this work, we introduce the notion of fermionic loop excitations in 3 + 1 dimensional topological phases.

Anomaly constraint on chiral central charge of (2+1)d TQFT

In this short paper, we argue that the chiral central charge c− of a (2+1)d topological ordered state is sometimes strongly constrained by ’t Hooft anomaly of anti-unitary global symmetry. For

Ja n 20 17 ( 3 + 1 ) – dimensional topological phases and self – dual quantum geometries encoded on Heegard surfaces

We apply the recently suggested strategy to lift state spaces and operators for (2 + 1)– dimensional topological quantum field theories to state spaces and operators for a (3 + 1)– dimensional TQFT
