Hydrodynamic derivation of the entrainment of matter induced by a surface elastic wave propagating along the flexible vacuum-matter interface is conducted by considering the nonlinear coupling between the interface and the rarefaction effect. The critical reflux values associated with the product of the second-order (unit) body forcing and the Reynolds number (representing the viscous dissipations) decrease as the Knudsen number (representing the rarefaction measure) increases from zero to 0.1… Expand

Slip in Quantum Fluids
In this review we describe theoretical and experimental investigations of general slip phenomena in context with the flow of the quantum liquids 3He, 4He and their mixtures at low temperatures. TheExpand
How Phase Transitions Induce Classical Behaviour
We continue the analysis of the onset of classical behaviour in a scalar field after a continuous phase transition, in which the system-field, the long wavelength order parameter of the model,Expand
On Fluid/Wall Slippage
Certain (nonpolymeric) fluids show an anomalously low friction when flowing against well-chosen solid walls. We discuss here one possible explanation, postulating that a gaseous film of smallExpand
Coexisting vacua and effective gravity
Our Universe may be a domain separated by physical phase boundaries from other domain-Universes with different vacuum energy density and matter content. The coexistence of different quantum vacua isExpand
Fate of bound systems in phantom and quintessence cosmologies
We study analytically and numerically the evolution of bound systems in universes with accelerating expansion where the acceleration either increases with time towards a Big Rip singularity (phantomExpand
Particle Physics and Inflationary Cosmology
With the invention of unified theories of strong, weak, electromagnetic and gravitational interactions, elementaryparticle physics has entered a very interesting and unusual stage of its development.Expand
Modified Newtonian dynamics as an alternative to dark matter
▪ Abstract Modified Newtonian dynamics (MOND) is an empirically motivated modification of Newtonian gravity or inertia suggested by Milgrom as an alternative to cosmic dark matter. The basic idea isExpand
Introduction to the mechanics of a continuous medium
This textbook offers a unified presentation of the concepts and general principles common to all branches of solid and fluid mechanics. It deals with: vectors and tensors, stress, strain andExpand
Quantum fields in nonstatic background: A histories perspective
For a quantum field living on a nonstatic space–time no instantaneous Hamiltonian is definable, for this generically necessitates a choice of inequivalent representation of the canonical commutationExpand
Rarefied Gas Dynamics
Rarefied gas dynamics is concerned with flows at such low density that the molecular mean free path is not negligible. Under these conditions, the gas no longer behaves as a continuum. ImportantExpand
