OUR evolutionary studies on Maniola jurtina in the Isles of Sdily have already been described up to (Dowdeswell et al., ig6o). Here and elsewhere we have made use of a quantitative character, the number of spots on the underside of the hindwings, for analysing the variability of this species and its response to differing conditions.
