Polycomb-group (PcG) proteins form chromatin-associated multimeric complexes, which are responsible for the maintenance of the transcriptionally repressive state of regulatory genes during development. We have isolated a Polycomb homologue of the hydrozoan Podocoryne carnea by a PCR-based approach.
