A description of Dwa ̄rakā and its environs, its growth and final destruction as narrated in the ancient classics of Mahābhāratha, Hari-vamśa, Skānda Purāna and Visnu Purāna is presented and it is shown that the Dwa ̄rak̄ built by Kr .s.n.a could not be the Dwa ̄r kā located at the western tip of Saurashtra. Geological evidence shows (1) that the coastline of India is a rifted margin with present day Saurashtra, Kachchh, Pacham, Wa ̄gir, Bel and other isolated masses occurring as islands off… CONTINUE READING
