We have analyzed the redshift-dependent fraction of galactic bars over 0:2 < z < 0:84 in 2157 luminous face-on spiral galaxies from the COSMOS 2 deg 2 field. Our sample is an order of magnitude larger than that used in any previous investigation, and is based onsubstantially deeper imaging data thanthat available from earlier wide-area studies of high-redshift galaxy morphology. We find that the fraction of barred spirals declines rapidly with redshift. Whereas in the local universe about 65% of… Expand
Galaxy Zoo:CANDELS barred discs and bar fractions
The formation of bars in disk galaxies is a tracer of the dynamical maturity of thepopulation. Previous studies have found that the incidence of bars in disks decreasesfrom the local Universe to z ∼Expand
Evolution of the Fraction of Clumpy Galaxies at 0.2 < z < 1.0 in the COSMOS Field
Using the Hubble Space Telescope/Advanced Camera for Surveys data in the COSMOS field, we systematically searched clumpy galaxies at 0.2 10^(9.5) M☉ decreases with time from ~0.35 at 0.8 10^(10.5) M☉Expand
Evolution in the dust lane fraction of edge-on L*v spiral galaxies since z = 0.8.
The presence of a well-defined and narrow dust lane in an edge-on spiral galaxy is the observational signature of a thin and dense molecular disk, in which gravitational collapse has overcomeExpand
Galaxy Zoo: an independent look at the evolution of the bar fraction over the last eight billion years from HST-COSMOS ?
We measure the redshift evolution of the bar fraction in a sample of 2380 visually selected disc galaxies found in Cosmic Evolution Survey (COSMOS) Hubble Space Telescope (HST ) images. The visualExpand
We have measured the radial light profiles and global shapes of bars using two-dimensional 3.6 mu m image decompositions for 144 face-on barred galaxies from the Spitzer Survey of Stellar StructureExpand
Galaxy Zoo:observing secular evolution through bars
In this paper, we use the Galaxy Zoo 2 data set to study the behavior of bars in disk galaxies as a function of specific star formation rate (SSFR) and bulge prominence. Our sample consists of 13,295Expand
Bars in Disk-dominated and Bulge-dominated Galaxies at z ~ 0: New Insights from ~3600 SDSS Galaxies
We present a study of large-scale bars in the local universe, based on a large sample of 3692 galaxies, with 18.5 ≤ Mg < − 22.0 mag and redshift 0.01 ≤ z < 0.03, drawn from the Sloan Digitized SkyExpand
Bar Fraction in Early- and Late-type Spirals
Bar fractions depend on the properties of the host galaxies, which are closely related to the formation and evolution of bars. However, observational studies do not provide consistent results. WeExpand
SDSS-IV MaNGA: The link between bars and the early cessation of star formation in spiral galaxies
Bars are common in low-redshift disk galaxies, and hence quantifying their influence on their host is of importance to the field of galaxy evolution. We determine the stellar populations and starExpand
We present observational evidence for the inhibition of bar formation in dispersion-dominated (dynamically hot) galaxies by studying the relationship between galactic structure and host galaxyExpand

A Near-Infrared Study of 2MASS Bars in Local Galaxies: An Anchor for High-Redshift Studies
We have measured the fraction of bars in nearby spiral galaxies using near-infrared J, H, and Ks images of 151 spiral galaxies from 2MASS. This local sample provides an anchor for the study of theExpand
A Constant Bar Fraction out to Redshift z ~ 1 in the Advanced Camera for Surveys Field of the Tadpole Galaxy
Barlike structures were investigated in a sample of 186 disk galaxies larger than 05 that are in the I-band image of the Tadpole galaxy taken with the Hubble Space Telescope Advanced Camera forExpand
The Evolution of Disk Galaxies in the GOODS-South Field: Number Densities and Size Distribution*
We examine the evolution of the sizes and number densities of disk galaxies using the high-resolution images obtained by the Great Observatories Origins Deep Survey (GOODS) with the Advanced CameraExpand
Resolved Galaxies in the Hubble Ultra Deep Field: Star Formation in Disks at High Redshift

The Redshift Evolution of Early-Type Galaxies in COSMOS: Do Massive Early-Type Galaxies Form by Dry Mergers?*
ABRIDGED: We study the evolution since z~1 of the rest-frame B luminosity function of the early-type galaxies (ETGs) in ~0.7 deg^2 in the COSMOS field. In order to identify ALL progenitors of localExpand
