A new type of centromere aberration in a transformed cell line of rat cerebral endothelial origin is described. These cells exhibit normal monocentric, dicentric, and multicentric chromosomes. The centromeres in dicentrics and multicentrics express variable locations along the chromosome. The centromeres in some of the multicentrics are located next to each other, with small intervening noncentromeric chromatin.
