Recently there has been a frenzy of activity to find alternative sterilants and sterilization methods. This activity originated from two distinct areas of regulatory activity. The first area of regulatory activity concerns the emission of dichlorodifluoromethane (hereafter referred to as CFC-12) and ethylene oxide (hereafter referred to as EtO) into the environment. The second area of regulatory activity addresses worker and patient exposure to EtO.
