The psychological symptoms assessed with a validated psychometric scale, SCL-90, were significantly higher in postmenopausal women (PMW; 60 subjects) than in premenopausal women (20 subjects). In the same PMW, the activity of the dopaminergic system, assessed with the PRL response to the dopamine-blocking agent sulpiride, was significantly lower than that in premenopausal women. During a period of 12 weeks the 60 PMW were randomly divided into 3 groups: no treatment (group A; n = 20), treatment…
Effects of Hormone Therapy on Cognition and Mood in Recently Postmenopausal Women: Findings from the Randomized, Controlled KEEPS–Cognitive and Affective Study
TLDR
The KEEPS-Cog findings suggest that for recently postmenopausal women, MHT did not alter cognition as hypothesized, and women treated with o-CEE showed improvements in depression and anxiety symptoms over the 48 mo period, compared to women on placebo.
Involvement of Estrogen Receptors in the Anxiolytic-Like Effect of Phytoestrogen Genistein in Rats with 12-Weeks Postovariectomy
TLDR
The hypothesis that estrogen receptor-β participates in the regulation of anxiety associated with low concentration of ovarian hormones and in the anxiolytic-like effects produced by natural estrogenic compounds such as phytoestrogens is supported.
Actions of progesterone on depression-like behavior in a model of surgical menopause are mediated by GABAA receptors
TLDR
Results indicated that sub-acute progesterone treatment reduced depression-like behavior in rats eight weeks post-ovariectomy through actions on GABA A receptors in a rat model of surgical menopause.
Observational Study on the Efficacy of Tibolone in Counteracting Early Carotid Atherosclerotic Lesions in Postmenopausal Women
TLDR
This preliminary study suggests that a 6-month tibolone treatment could counteract the increase of the IMT of CCA observed in untreated PMW.

Treatment of Endometrial Hyperplasia with Cyproterone Acetate Histological and Hormonal Aspects
TLDR
It is evident that CPA can not only act as a progestin, but may also reduce the endogenous estrogen production, lowering either the adrenal production of A (the most important estrogen precursor in the post‐menopause) or the A to E1 peripheral conversion.
Progestins increase endogenous opioid peptide activity in postmenopausal women.
TLDR
It is suggested that progestins exert their negative feedback effects on LH at least in part through an opioid peptide-mediated mechanism and that Provera treatment alone can reestablish opiatergic control of LH.
Assessment of neuroleptic-like properties of progesterone
TLDR
Progesterone administration dose-dependently increased the EEG activity during wakefulness in the 10- to 30-Hz frequency bands and decreased locomotor activity, and the behavioral profile of progesterone is compatible with the sedative properties of its metabolite allopregnanolone via the GABAA receptor, but also with the possibility that progester One shares some properties with atypical antipsychotics, which may be relevant for the development and treatment of psychotic disturbances.
Evidence that estrogens inhibit LH secretion through opioids in postmenopausal women using naloxone.
TLDR
Findings seem to confirm that endogenous opioid peptides may modulate the inhibitory effect exerted by estrogens on LH secretion, in humans.
