OBJECTIVE PGC-1α is a transcriptional co-activator and master regulator of mitochondrial biogenesis. While extensively studied in skeletal and cardiac muscle, recent findings suggest that white adipose tissue PGC-1α plays an important role in regulating glucose homeostasis.
