Photosensitivity disorders are caused by a variety of mechanisms. Three common themes are as follows: excess chromophore allowing visible light energy to cause photodynamic damage, reduced DNA repair capacity to UV-induced DNA damage, and enhanced sensitivity to light-induced allergens mediated immunologically.
