PURPOSE To explore women's perceptions of transitioning to the birth facility when in labor. DESIGN Qualitative. METHODS Twenty-four nulliparous women were interviewed following their birth experiences. RESULTS Pain was identified as the primary reason for transitioning to the hospital.
