We test the ability of the “escape mechanism” to create the anisotropic flow observed in high-energy nuclear collisions. We compare the flow harmonics v n in the few-rescatterings regime from two types of transport simulations, with 2 → 2 and 2 → 0 collision kernels respectively, and from analytical calculations neglecting the gain term of the Boltzmann equation. We find that the even flow harmonics are similar in the three approaches, while the odd harmonics differ significantly.

Anisotropic flow far from equilibrium

We compute analytically the anisotropic flow in an expanding mixture of several species of relativistic massive particles. We find that a single collision per particle on average already leads to

Early time behavior of spatial and momentum anisotropies in kinetic theory across different Knudsen numbers

We investigate the early time development of the anisotropic transverse flow and spatial eccentricities of a fireball with various particle-based transport approaches using a fixed initial condition.

Early time behavior of spatial and momentum anisotropies in a kinetic approach to nuclear collisions

We derive a general formula for the early time dependence of a phase space distribution evolving according to the kinetic Boltzmann equation. Assuming that the early evolution of the system created

Development of transverse flow at small and large opacities in conformal kinetic theory

We employ an effective kinetic description, based on the Boltzmann equation in the relaxation time approximation, to study the space-time dynamics and development of transverse flow of small and

Collective flow in single-hit QCD kinetic theory

Abstract Motivated by recent interest in collectivity in small systems, we calculate the harmonic flow response to initial geometry deformations within weakly coupled QCD kinetic theory using the

Fluctuations of anisotropic flow from the finite number of rescatterings in a two-dimensional massless transport model

We investigate the fluctuations of anisotropic transverse flow due to the finite number of scatterings in a two-dimensional system of massless particles. Using a set of initial geometries from a

Searching for small droplets of hydrodynamic fluid in proton–proton collisions at the LHC

In this paper, we investigate the hydrodynamic collectivity in high-multiplicity events of proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s}=$ 13 TeV, using iEBE-VISHNU hybrid model with three different initial

Opacity dependence of elliptic flow in kinetic theory

The observation of large azimuthal anisotropies $$v_n$$vn in the particle spectra of proton–proton (pp) and proton–nucleus (pA) collisions challenges fluid dynamic interpretations of $$v_n$$vn, as
