Living kidney donation is increasing because of prolonged waiting times on the transplant list, as well as improved outcomes for recipients. In 2001, the number of living donors surpassed the number of deceased donors; this trend likely will continue with ever-increasing margins. Because of this increase, as well as changes in our society's health, it is time to re-review the guidelines for selecting living kidney donors established by Kasiske et al in 1995. A conference will be held this year…
Evaluation of the Medically Complex Living Kidney Donor
TLDR
This review presents the major issues in the evaluation process of medically complex living kidney donor and explains why this medical complex living donors requires careful evaluation for future renal risk.
Evaluation of the Recipient and Donor in Living Kidney Transplantation
TLDR
A medical, surgical, and psychosocial evaluation is mandatory prior to living kidney donation to ensure that the donor candidate is in good health and has normal kidney function, is not a risk to the recipient with respect to transmission of infections and malignancy, and will not face unacceptable risks after donation.
Is an Absolute Prohibition of Living Kidney Donation by Minors Appropriate? A Discussion of the Arguments in Favor and Against
TLDR
Patients undergoing pre-emptive kidney transplantation, defined as kidney transplant procedures without precedingdialysis treatment, had a 37 % lower risk of death-censored graft loss compared to kidney transplant patients that received a 6–12 months dialysis treatment prior to transplantation.
Living Kidney Donor Evaluation and Rejection: A Danish Single-Centre Experience
TLDR
All potential living kidney donors who attended the 3-day donor work-up programme in the department of Nephrology at Odense University Hospital in Denmark from 2005 to 2009 were included to identify the potential kidney donors that either accepted for donation, or rejected in a 5-year period.
Creating a medical, ethical, and legal framework for complex living kidney donors.
TLDR
A medical, ethical, and legal framework for protecting complex living donors is important given the diverse, sometimes conflicting pressures that transplant centers are under to accept living donors.
El estudio del donador vivo para trasplante renal
TLDR
The increasing acceptance of older kidney donors as well as the acceptance of individuals with comorbidities that were previously considered as not eligible for kidney donation that are discussed in detail in this paper.
Surgical Management of the Renal Transplant Recipient
TLDR
This chapter will discuss the surgical follow up and complications that may occur following renal transplantation.

Protect the donor health not only during the postoperative period but also providing lifelong donor follow-up, thus protecting donor by precluding donation cost-effectively.

TLDR
The results indicate widespread acceptance and use of living donors and the need for future studies to examine the efficacy of tests used in the evaluation process and to determine the long-term risks of renal donation.

TLDR
The current survey revealed a marked disparity in the management of live donors in France, raising the question of whether these practices should be codified into a set of guidelines for live-donor transplantation.
Kidney donors live longer.
TLDR
To donate a kidney does not seem to constitute any long-term risk, and the better survival among donors is probably due to the fact that only healthy persons are accepted for living kidney donation.

TLDR
Donors should not be rejected except for the general reasons the authors identify, and when these reasons do not seem to apply, the decision to deny transplantation should be reconsidered.

The aim was to use the Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network (OPTN) database to determine the number of renal waitlist candidates who previously had been living donors, and to determine risk factors for postdonation renal failure.
