Paroxysmal nocturnal haemoglobinuria (PNH) is an acquired clonal disorder of the haemopoietic stem cell (HSC). The pathogenetic link with bone marrow failure is well recognized; however, the process of clonal expansion of the glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI)-deficient cells over normal haemopoiesis remains unclear.
