Left ventricular remodeling after myocardial infarction involves activation of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system. Recently, the biallelic -344T/C polymorphism of the aldosterone synthase gene was associated with increased aldosterone levels, arterial hypertension, diastolic dysfunction, and left ventricular dilatation.
