The preocular tear film comprises the secretions of several glands [1, 7, 8, 14]. The outermost lipid layer is produced by the Meibomian and Zeis glands in the upper and lower eyelids. The middle aqueous layer is produced by the orbital lacrimal gland and the gland of the third eyelid. The inner mucoprotein layer is produced by conjunctival goblet cells and corneal epithelial cells [3, 15, 17, 18].
