The use of the 99Mo→99mTc generator in nuclear medicine is well established world wide. The production of the 99Mo (T1/2 = 66 h) parent as a fission product of 235U is largely based on the use of reactor technology. From the early 1990's accelerator based production methods to provide either direct produced 99mTc or the parent 99Mo, were studied and suggested as potential alternatives to the reactor based production of 99Mo. A possible pathway for the charged particle production of 99mTc and…

Feasibility studies towards future self-sufficient supply of the 99Mo-99mTc isotopes with Japanese accelerators

Both the advantages and disadvantages among the three scenarios by taking account of the Japanese accelerator situation are considered, which are for a scheme on a global scale, works in a local area, and both cases take a long time for negotiations.

Theoretical modeling of yields for proton-induced reactions on natural and enriched molybdenum targets.

The proposed approach allows us to theoretically estimate the amount of (99m)Tc and its ratio relative to (99g)TC and other radioisotopes which must be considered reaction contaminants, potentially contributing to additional patient dose in diagnostic studies.

An alternative route for the preparation of the medical isotope 99Mo from the 238U(γ, f) and 100Mo(γ, n) reactions

The radionuclide 99Mo, which has a half-life of 65.94 h was produced from 238U(γ, f) and 100Mo(γ, n) reactions using a 10 MeV electron linac at EBC, Kharghar Navi-Mumbai, India. This has been

Benchmark experiment for the cross section of the Mo-100(p,2n)Tc-99m and Mo-100(p,pn)Mo-99 reactions

As nuclear medicine community has shown an increasing interest in accelerator produced 99m Tc radionuclide, the possible alternative direct production routes for producing 99m Tc were investigated

CYCLOTRON PRODUCTION OF TECHNETIUM RADIONUCLIDES USING A NATURAL METALLIC MOLYBDENUM THICK TARGET AND CONSEQUENT PREPARATION OF [TC]-BRIDA AS A RADIO-LABELLED KIT SAMPLE

One of the main advantages of the direct production of 99mTc using cyclotrons, is its low environmental hazards and less waste management difficulties relative to fission-product method, but, on the other hand, due to the relatively short half-life of 99MTc, the directProduction method could only be used for local applications.

Quantitative analysis of relationships between irradiation parameters and the reproducibility of cyclotron-produced 99mTc yields

A mathematical expression is derived that quantifies the influence of variations in various irradiation parameters on yield reproducibility, quantified in terms of the coefficient of variation of the EOB 99mTc activity, which is believed to aid in the development of quality-control criteria required to ensure consistent supply of large quantities of high-radionuclidic-purity cyclotron-produced 99m Tc.
