BACKGROUND Early diagnosis of tuberculosis is important in its control. The conventional techniques like smear microscopy and culture suffer from low sensitivity for diagnosis of extra-pulmonary tuberculosis like Pleural Tuberculosis (PTB) due to paucibacillary nature of the fluid.
