Abstract Six floating 4-m3 cages stocked with 40 silver carp per cage (three cages) and 40 bighead carp per cage (three cages) were placed in each of the three subtropical Lakes Phewa, Begnas, and Rupa. The fish were cultured, without supplying artificial feed, from August 1994 to December 1995. Fish growth was positively correlated with water temperature, and a slight loss in weight occurred in January when water temperature fell below 16°C in all the lakes. Fish growth was better in Lake…
Growth and Production of Planktivorous Fish Species in Cages Stocked as Monoculture and Polyculture at Khapuadi in Phewa Lake, Nepal
TLDR
Growth and production of planktivorous fish species were conducted in 15 outdoor experimental cages of 50 m with nylon netting of 25 mm mesh size and the growth rate of silver carp in the monoculture system was found to be significantly higher than that in the polyculture system.
Effects of stocking density and natural food availability on the extensive cage culture of pejerrey (Odontesthes bonariensis) in a shallow Pampean lake in Argentina
TLDR
It is demonstrated that stocking density and available zooplankton, in both quantity and quality, are key factors in regulating extensive cage culture of pejerrey.
Participatory fisheries management for livelihood improvement of fishers in Phewa Lake, Pokhara, Nepal
This paper deals with the participatory fisheries management program, aimed at and successful in livelihood improvement of fisher community known as ‘Pode’ or ‘Jalari’ living near Phewa Lake,
Depthwise variation of carbon, nitrogen and biogenic silica in sediment from lakes of Pokhara Valley, Nepal
Phewa and Begnas lakes in Pokhara Valley are playing important roles in ecological, economic, cultural and aesthetic aspects. However, due to increase in anthropogenic pressure and activities in the
Effect of inclusion of blue-green algae meal on growth and accumulation of microcystins in gibel carp (Carassius auratus gibelio)
TLDR
Six isonitrogenous and isoenergetic diets were formulated and microcystins in the muscle, liver, gallbladder, and spleen increased with increasing algae inclusion, and Liver alanine aminotransferase activity of fish-fed diets 4, 5 and 6 was significantly lower than the control diet.
Response and recovery of hybrid sturgeon from subchronic oral administration of cyanobacteria
TLDR
The results showed that a dose‐dependent decrease in feeding rate (FR) and specific growth rate (SGR) were observed in the fish fed with MCD and HCD, and MCs clearance in fish liver and intestine showed time‐dependence during the 43‐day recovery.
BALANCE OF PHOSPHORUS IN TWO DIFFERENT TYPES OF CYPRINIDS POLYCULTURE PONDS
In order to limit the impact of industrial aquaculture activity on the environment and therefore, to be able to compete with recirculating aquaculture systems, pond based production systems must
Seasonal Diversity and Population Status of Waterbirds in Phewa Lake, Pokhara, Nepal
The study (2007-08) was carried out in Phewa Lake which is one of the largest lake systems in Nepal to evaluate seasonal diversity and population status of waterbirds. A total of 39 waterbird species

Growth and Food Habits of Cage-Cultured Bighead Carp x Silver Carp Hybrids in Ponds of Varying Trophic Status
TLDR
Four 20m3 cages stocked with 120 bighead carp x silver carp hybrids per cage were placed in each of four ponds varying in trophic status from mesotrophic to hypereutophic, revealing consumption of larger quantities of colonial blue-green algae and less zooplankton than was found in fish from the eutrophic ponds.

TLDR
Limnological characteristics were studied and analyzed in the subtropical Lakes Phewa, Begnas, and Rupa of Pokhara Valley, Nepal from 1993 to 1997 and seem to be oligoeutrophic and to have some characteristics of temperate lakes rather than tropical lakes.
