The purpose of this study was to evaluate nasal airway resistance (NAR) during rapid maxillary expansion (RME) using acoustic rhinometry (AR). The sample comprised 22 children (13 girls and nine boys) with maxillary constriction. The mean age was 12.9 +/- 1.54 years and all patients were found to have normal nasal cavities following anterior rhinoscopic examination. A modified bonded splint type RME appliance was used for expansion. AR was used to measure NAR before (T1), during (T2) and after…
Comparison of nasal volume changes during rapid maxillary expansion using acoustic rhinometry and computed tomography.
TLDR
Both methods demonstrated that nasal volume significantly increased following the use of RME (P<0.05) and correlation analyses showed no difference in volume (P>0.01) using either of the two methods.
Effects of surgically assisted rapid maxillary expansion on nasal dimensions using acoustic rhinometry.
Rapid maxillary expansion and surgically assisted rapid maxillary expansion effects on nasal volume.
TLDR
Although the mean ages between the RME and the SARME groups were different, the increase in nasal volume was similar in both groups, and the measurement with the use of decongestant was similar to that without use ofDecongestants on the both groups.
Comparison of the effects of RME and fan-type RME on nasal airway by using acoustic rhinometry.
TLDR
RME and fan-type RME had similar effects on the nasal airway immediately after expansion and the increase in nasal volume and MCA was more stable in the RME group than in the fan-types group at the end of the retention period.
Relationship between rapid maxillary expansion and nasal cavity size and airway resistance: short- and long-term effects.
Relationship between voice function and skeletal effects of rapid maxillary expansion.
TLDR
After RME therapy, voice quality differences were found to be associated with increases in nasal width and the degree of association between the changes in the voice parameters and nasal width was assessed with Pearson's correlation.
Morphological Nasal Changes Associated with Rapid Maxillary Expansion
TLDR
The results showed that the greater alar cartilage width returned to its original position, the nasal cavity width increased, and the tip of the nose moved downward and minimally forward; as well, SNA° returned toIts original value and a small increase occurred in the nasolabial angle due to RME.

An Evaluation of Active Anterior and Posterior Rhinomanometry in British Adults
TLDR
The total nasal airway resistance was higher during expiration than inspiration, and higher in women than in men, and for a number of reasons, PRM is considered to be more suitable than ARM for measuring nasal resistance.
Acoustic rhinometry: effects of decongestants and posture on nasal patency.
TLDR
It is concluded that acoustic rhinometry can provide a sensitive index of changes in nasal geometry and be used to detectChanges in nasal patency caused by decongestants or posture.

TLDR
Naval respiratory resistance (NRR) is a measure of airway adequacy and can be recorded by rhinomanometry, a non-invasive technique which measures resistance to airflow by simultaneous recording of flow and pressure drop over the nose.
Acoustic rhinometry: evaluation of nasal cavity geometry by acoustic reflection.
TLDR
It is concluded that the acoustic method provides an accurate method for measuring the geometry of the nasal cavity and is potentially useful for investigation of physiological and pathological changes in the nose.

TLDR
It is demonstrated that premature collapse of the nasal valve is responsible for the symptom of nasal obstruction in many patients with anterior nasal septal deformity.

TLDR
The present study was undertaken to determine in model studies whether currently available acoustic rhinometry instrumentation might be used to analyze the nasal cavity configuration of infants and children and three systematic errors are described.

TLDR
Collected nasal resistance data are found to vary inversely with age and fall in an almost linear fashion between already established normals of infancy and adulthood.
The effect of rapid maxillary expansion on conductive hearing loss.
TLDR
It has been determined that hearing improved at a statistically significant level after the active treatment period, but that the improvement reversed at the end of the retention period.
