We consider a class of participation rights, i.e. obligations issued by a company to investors who are interested in performance-based compensation. Albeit having desirable economic properties equity-based debt obligations (EbDO) pose challenges in accounting and contract pricing. We formulate and solve the associated mathematical problem in a discrete time, as well as a continuous time setting. In the latter case the problem is reduced to a forward-backward stochastic differential equation… Expand

Utility maximization via decoupling fields
We consider the utility maximization problem for a general class of utility functions defined on the real line. We rely on existing results which reduce the problem to a coupled forward-backwardExpand
Solving forward-backward stochastic differential equations explicitly — a four step scheme
SummaryIn this paper we investigate the nature of the adapted solutions to a class of forward-backward stochastic differential equations (SDEs for short) in which the forward equation isExpand
A general chain rule for distributional derivatives
We prove a general chain rule for the distribution derivatives of the composite function v(x) = f(u(x)), where u: Rn Rm has bounded variation and f: Rm Rk is Lipschitz continuous. INTRODUCTION TheExpand
An FBSDE approach to the Skorokhod embedding problem for Gaussian processes with non-linear drift
We solve the Skorokhod embedding problem for a class of Gaussian processes including Brownian motion with non-linear drift. Our approach relies on solving an associated strongly coupled system ofExpand
Fully Coupled Forward-Backward Stochastic Differential Equations and Applications to Optimal Control
Existence and uniqueness results of fully coupled forward-backward stochastic differential equations with an arbitrarily large time duration are obtained. Some stochastic Hamilton systems arising inExpand
Forward-backward stochastic differential equations and quasilinear parabolic PDEs
Abstract This paper studies, under some natural monotonicity conditions, the theory (existence and uniqueness, a priori estimate, continuous dependence on a parameter) of forward–backward stochasticExpand
On well-posedness of forward-backward SDEs-A unified approach
In this paper, we study the well-posedness of the Forward-Backward Stochastic Differential Equations (FBSDE) in a general non-Markovian framework. The main purpose is to find a unified scheme whichExpand
On non-Markovian forward–backward SDEs and backward stochastic PDEs
In this paper, we establish an equivalence relationship between the wellposedness of forward–backward SDEs (FBSDEs) with random coefficients and that of backward stochastic PDEs (BSPDEs). Using theExpand
On the existence and uniqueness of solutions to FBSDEs in a non-degenerate case
We prove a result of existence and uniqueness of solutions to forward-backward stochastic differential equations, with non-degeneracy of the diffusion matrix and boundedness of the coefficients asExpand
Optimal Control of Diffusion Coefficients via Decoupling Fields
We consider a diffusion control problem where the controller totally determines the state's diffusion coefficient but has no influence on the state's drift rate. By using the Pontryagin maximum pri...
