BACKGROUND Peer counselling is reported to increase breastfeeding rates. We evaluated an intervention consisting of mainly telephone contact peer counselling programme on breastfeeding duration and exclusivity. METHODS Peer counsellors (PCs) were mothers who had successfully breastfed and had received formal training.
