In this paper we describe a novel application of mobile robot technology to the mobility of the frail blind. Although the use of mobile robots as a high tech alternative to guide dogs is not new 2] our robot design concentrates of the particular problems of the frail blind. People who are both frail and visually impaired have great diiculty in using common mobility aids such as the cane or guide dog.
