The prevalence of allergic rhinitis (AR) increases continuously worldwide. Among various factors, excessive production of free radicals has been implicated in the development of allergic rhinitis. The objectives of present study were to ascertain the plasma total antioxidant activity (TAA) and erythrocyte malondialdehyde (MDA) levels in allergic rhinitis, and to determine their cumulative effect in the disease development. In the present study, aforesaid parameters were estimated in 60 subjects…

ASSESSMENT OF PLASMA ASCORBIC ACID LEVELS AND ITS RELATION WITH SERUM URIC ACID IN ALLERGIC RHINITIS PATIENTS

TLDR
Assessment of plasma ascorbic acid along with serum uric acid is an efficient approach to assess oxidative stress and it is suggested that elevated serum urate level is associated with enhanced protective mechanism against oxidative Stress and decreased asCorbate levels is due to its free radical scavenging and urate radical repairing action in AR.

Evaluation of Total Antioxidant Activity and Its Relation with Serum Uric Acid in North Indian Elderly

TLDR
The findings indicate that senescence is closely associated with altered plasma TAA and serum uric acid levels due to augmented oxidative stress and thereby making the elderly more susceptible to develop pathological consequences.

[Oxidative stress and antioxidant factors in pathophysiology of allergic rhinitis].

TLDR
The results suggest that imbalances between oxidative stress and antioxidant defence mechanisms may play a role in the etiopathogenesis of allergic rhinitis.

Oxidative stress status and plasma trace elements in patients with asthma or allergic rhinitis.

Increased oxidative stress and altered antioxidants status in patients with chronic allergic rhinitis

TLDR
The changes in different parameters indicate an imbalance in the oxidant and antioxidant status in chronic allergic rhinitis patients, which shows that the body is trying to cope for the oxidative stress by altering the enzyme levels.

Assessment of Plasma Total Antioxidant Activity in Hypertensive Smokers

TLDR
Findings indicate that alteration in plasma total antioxidant status along with oxidative stress (via MDA production) may be responsible for biomolecular deterioration and disturbance in homeostatic control leading to the etiopathogenesis of HT in smokers.

Efficacy of vitamin E in knee osteoarthritis management of North Indian geriatric population

TLDR
These findings confirm the protective role of vitamin E supplementation against oxidative stress mediated biomolecular deterioration in OA, however, the anti-inflammatory role of Vitamin E remains to be explored.

Prediction of hypertension and cardiovascular disease risk in North Indian geriatric population: a conundrum of senescence

TLDR
Findings reflect the importance of assessment of plasma paraoxonase, as excellent marker along with NO in early prediction of hypertension risk and its related cardiovascular complications in elderly, and antioxidant defence system of body should be boosted up with advancing of age in order to avert future complications.

Oxidative stress mediated electrolyte imbalance in 30 known cases of knee osteoarthritis patients: A clinical approach

TLDR
The findings indicate that oxidative stress plays a significant role in shaping the OA older population to develop future hypertension, characterized by altered serum minerals levels, which should be increased with senescence in order to prevent disease complexity.

Antioxidant enzymatic activities in human blood cells after an allergic reaction to pollen or house dust mite.

TLDR
This is the first global study of antioxidant enzymes, including TBARS level determinations, in allergy, which determined superoxide dismutases, glutathione peroxidase and catalase activities in each cell type and the extent of thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS).

Genetic Contributions to Plasma Total Antioxidant Activity

TLDR
It is demonstrated for the first time that TAS, an indicator of redox homeostasis, is under strong genetic control, especially among smokers, and with appropriate tools, it should be possible to localize genes that regulate redoxHomeostasis and, ultimately, identify the DNA sequence variants predisposing subjects to oxidative damage.

Systemic inflammation and alteration in vitamin D levels in pregnancy induced hypertension

TLDR
Regular assessment of serum CRP, vitamin D, sodium and calcium levels and recommendation of diet low in sodium, rich in calcium and appropriate vitamin D should be increased during pregnancy to prevent PIH and its related complications.
