This paper explores the use of GaN MOSFETs and series-connected inverter segments to realize an IMMD. The proposed IMMD topology reduces the segment voltage and offers an opportunity to utilize wide bandgap 200V GaN MOSFETs. Consequently, a reduction in IMMD size is achieved by eliminating inverter heat sink and optimizing the choice of DC-link capacitors.
