THE lowest eustatic sea level during the past 35,000 years has until recently been estimated to be −130 m1. Preliminary results of recent marine geological research in the Arafura Sea substantiate the evidence2 for a worldwide eustatic lowering of sea level of more than 130 m between 21,000 and 14,000 yr BP.
